The Onya Collective unites architects, designers, and activists working together to create positive spaces where people and nature meet in the city. We design innovative, space-specific interventions in addition to running community and art activism events in the urban ecology field. The group uses innovative placemaking processes to work together with communities to dream of new ways to use urban nature and agriculture as tools to improve public spaces.
The Collective is a non-profit initiative comprised of individual projects, led by members of the Collective in cooperation with other members as well as community volunteers. The Collective is currently an unregistered entity taking on individual projects that support our ideology and improve public spaces for everyone
We started in 2014 in the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station and surrounding area. We believe the power of community, ecological design, and creating cities that are socially and economically inclusive. Amidst pollution and crumbling infrastructure on the social margins of the city, working with sustainable and design tools in the public sphere can offer a minimally invasive option to quickly improve a small space and empower the local community to feel connected to the spaces they live, illustrating how neglected areas can be improved together.
